About Me

Hello! My name is Emily Cook. I graduated from The University of Oklahoma in the spring of 2016 with a degree in elementary education. I am from a small town north of San Antonio, Texas called Boerne. I grew up in a Catholic home and was involved in my church throughout both high school and college.

The summer before my senior year in college I was given the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Honduras. What I thought to be a random summer mission trip that a friend persuaded me to go on with her ended up to be so much more than I could have ever believed.

I spent my senior year in college focused on getting my degree in teaching as well as discerning my future. Everyone, including myself, expected me to get a job teaching somewhere as this has been my dream since I was a young girl, but God of course had other plans. He continued to put missionary work on my heart, specifically that amazing mission trip that I went on to Honduras.

To make a long story short, I finally realized that the Lord's plan for me is so much better than what I could ever plan for myself, and his current plan for me is to serve in Trujillo, Honduras at a Catholic orphanage called Farm of the Child (Finca del Niño). I will be serving as the second grade teacher, teaching math, english, and science to all of the 1st and 2nd graders as well as fulfilling other day to day duties at the farm.

I will be leaving for language school in Guatemala mid-August 2016. After six-weeks (end of September), I, along with four of the other missionaries, will be traveling to the Finca Del Niño where we will live for the next 15 months (with openness to continue after that time is up). I am so so excited for this next chapter in my life and will (hopefully) be updating this blog throughout my time in Honduras so that you can share in my adventures as well. Thanks for reading!
